2012 Chrysler 300 SRT8 on the road

The success of the modern Chrysler 300 launched in 2005 can be attributed to its broad appeal. People of all ages, incomes and lifestyles were attracted to the sedan’s dramatic styling, power and performance. As the king of the E-segment lineup, the 2012 Chrysler 300 SRT8® adds high-performance hardware to the elegant proportions and head turning design to provide the ultimate combination of world-class luxury, power and handling. With 470 horsepower (351 kW) and 470 (637 N•m) lb.-ft. of torque, the 300 SRT8 is targeted at customers that seek heart pounding, adrenaline filled excitement, but don’t want to sacrifice comfort and innovative features to get it. Under the hood of the 2012 Chrysler 300 SRT8, the new 6.4-liter HEMI® V-8 makes its debut in the Chrysler brand product lineup delivering 470 horsepower (351 kW) and 470 (637 N•m) lb.-ft. of torque, up 45 horsepower and 50 lb.-ft. over the 6.1-liter HEMI V-8 it replaces. The improved torque output — including an additional 80 lb.-ft. at 2900 rpm — allows for inspired standing starts and improved straight-line performance while new, performance-tuned motor mounts improve idle stability and ride control at any speed. An active intake manifold and high-lift camshaft with cam phasing provides maximum low-end torque while optimizing high-end power. There are big discounts at the 789 dealers that are closing, but you’d better hurry. They are closing Monday the 15th. Until then they will be selling at any price over what surviving dealers will pay them for their unsold inventory. Chrysler is not setting a fixed price below cost, so there’s no way of knowing what that “great deal” is.

It doesn’t matter. It’s still a BAD IDEA.

The economics of a “trade down” depend on the relative equity of the traded car versus the bought car. If your equity is already negative, you are not going to improve it by trading for anything.

Any new vehicle you buy will have negative equity the minute you drive it off the lot. Add that to the negative equity you already have (they have to pay off your Yukon), and you are digging yourself an even deeper hole.

There’s an old saying, I think it was Will Rogers who said it first. “If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging.”

Buying a new car will NOT eat up your negative equity. It simply gets added to the price of the new car, whether the new car is cheap or expensive. It makes your new car more expensive. If you still want to look at bargains on Chryslers, here’s a web site that talks about it:
