1968 ford mustang 302 Can't Post

I have been having some trouble with the 302. When the engine is warm it pudders or jumps. In other words it doesn't run smoothly while idling or accelerating. I thought it was my compression but I checked it and all is fine. While checking the compression I noticed what looked like dirt on the treads and at the base of the plugs. The dirt breaks up in the fingers and I think it is oil or carbon. I'm still looking into the spuddering issue with the engine but I have no idea what the dirt thing might be. If you have any ideas let me know.

Thanks
Brad

if cleaning can do some sense, then it could be the dirt. but if it goes the other way, then maybe it has something to do with the engine. check www.partstrain.com for some infos on auto parts.

Just joined this forum so maybe you have found your problem, the previous post didn't make much sense to me, maybe it did to you.
What it sounds like you are discribing is a carbonized oil build up that is forming on top of your pistons this will cause your engine to run rough and foul the plugs. This will happen a lot depending on the type of fuel you are using and the way you drive your car. You may try a decarbon additive that you run through your carb that will burn the carbon off, a cheap way to do it is to get about a half bottle of water in a coke bottle and run it through the carb the same way, just make sure the car is up to operating temp. For heavy carbon you can get it up to operating temp and then run some water through and let it kill the engine, let it set for 10-15 minutes and restart, this will allow time for water to turn to steam and loosen hard carbon, after restart run rest of water through carb and rev up a few times to clean all excess carbon out, you shold see a black cloud out tail pipe, that will clear up after a few minutes.
After you do all of this go to your local discount auto store and get a bottle of "Lucas" fuel injection cleaner and add it to your fuel, this will clean your fuel system, carb and touch up your piston tops.
For more of these tips go to www.jtcbiz.com and check out the info I have there.
Thanks
Jack

Its really difficult to say when not seeing it. But i guess cleaning can really help with proper maintenance. You ought clean your spark plugs, change your engine and transmission oil, well if you got no time for that there are lots of shops to get 'em ride serviced up..
