Q&A: How would i remove rust from my brake calipers?
Question by derik: How would i remove rust from my brake calipers?
i plan on painting my brake calipers with a g2 paint system. however, my calipers are pretty rusted, and once i take it off my brakes, i was wondering if anybody knew a good product or method to remove rust from my calipers ready for paint? is submerging calipers under rust solutions bad for the calipers? thanks.

the easiest thing to do is sandblast them. But if you do not have access to one and/or dont want to pay a body shop to do the work for you, I would suggest using a light grit sand paper. It will work wonders. make sure you clean the calipers off real well with a piece of cloth when you are done sanding off the rust. then you will want to primer before you paint. Good luck

If you sand Blast or use any sort of caustic liquid on them your going ruin the caliper rubbers. They will dry out from the liquid or rip from the initial application. The sand paper thing seems ok. A light touch is needed and don’t go near the piston which holds the rubber in place. have fun
