Question by crash1980: Does anyone make replacement parts for the front axle of 63 chevy 4×4 that is 3/4 ton?like the spider gears?
My 4×4 doesn’t pull itself in 4 wheel drive mode.It has a popping sound coming from the front differential.I am guessing that it is the spiders or the axle drive gear inside the differential.These parts aren’t available in my area.So I am looking for new replacement parts or maybe a salvage yard that specializes in older chevy 4×4 parts.Can anyone help?

I just bought my first car. It’s an 85 Oldsmobile 442 with a ’71 model 455. I am interested in sqeezing some more horsepower out of it, but I have a problem. All the big dealers (i.e. Jegs) have all the parts for big-block Chevys. Are there any parts that will fit my 455? And if not, where can I get a good catalog for my G-body?

I am living in Chile and I am in the process of buying a Ford Escape 2008 petrol 2.3. However, I will be moving to South Africa later this year, and I was planning to take the vehicle. I learned that Ford South Africa does not sell Ford Escape but sells instead Ford Territory and Ford Ranger. How common are the parts of Ford Escape with the other Ford ranges available in Africa and how easy will be to source parts?

It depends on the parts you are looking for. Any petrolium burning 2.3L Ford engine will interchange parts almost 100% based on the production run of the engine. If the engine was built in 2008 than almost any 2.3L from 2005-present should interchange parts very readily. suspension componants tend to differ from model to model so it would be difficult to find parts such as control arms and things of that nature. The brake system may have the same componants as the ranger or territory but you would have to research that in great detail and make sure the part numbers are EXACTLY the same. Hope that helps.

I am currently an engineer that is thinking of designing and producing after-market or custom car accessories (mainly body-work and lighting), and was wondering; Who do I need to contact in order to determine if the pieces that I may create are legal or not. Also, what are the regulations and laws associated with creating custom car parts.

If anyone knows anything related to this topic, could you please give me as much data as possible (i,e, links, contacts, etc.) The more information that I have, the better.

Body work there really is no guidelines, as long as the OEM structure (the physical bumpers, etc.) remain in place. Lighting, however, is a different story. In order to be road legal, you would need to have them approved by the DOT (Dept. of Transportation), which is an expensive and long process. Performance parts must meet federal emissions standards and usually must pass the California Air Research Board approval, and be issued an Executive Order number to be sold as street legal in CA and other states that use CA emissions regulations.
