Question by Camille C.: Car tires?
So supposedely the previous owner of my car put on 2,000 dollar German racing tires. It’s a 2007 mustang and I bought it lightly used at a Toyota dealership. My question is, did the Toyota dealership take off the German racing tires and put their stock all-weather tires? The brand of them is Barum. Has anyone ever heard of that brand, or know how I can find out?
Um thanks for you opinion, but it is a V6, and he also added 20 extra horsepower, lowered it and custom painted stripes on it, and put flowmasters on it. And I don’t think a 15 year old girl needs an extremely fast car. I’m pretty content with it.
Also, the previous owner was the one who told us he added the tires, not the car salesman so I’m not thinking that he would lie.

Off Road Tire Care

off road tires

The driving experience of a challenging trail can be affected by your off road tires. Not only will the enjoyment of your ride suffer if the tires are improperly maintained, you could suffer a serious injury. Follow these tips to recognize and fix potential problems with off road tire before they become serious enough to threaten your safety.

Make the most of mileage capacity and drive safely on streets by making sure that your off road tires are properly inflated. A lot of Jeep drivers prefer under inflated tires, so make sure you don’t over inflate them. Off road tires are a lot different from the every day use tires usually used on a vehicle and they need special attention. Radial tires can be used for both on and off the road driving, and can save the cost of having both types. Because radial tires work anywhere, the only thing you’ll need to change for on road or off road driving is the tire pressure.

]]>

Make the job of changing the tire pressure easier by carrying a portable air compressor with you. Off road driving causes the tire rotation to vary from street driving. A more frequent rotation is used for off road driving. That’s caused to the driving conditions and how the tire treads are worn away because of it. The front and back tire treads wear away differently. It’s suggested that you rotate the tires of an off road vehicle every 4,000 to 6,000, even though you can get away with going 6,000 to 8,000 miles between rotations.

Your own eye can be a better judge on when to rotate the tires than the mileage, though. If it looks like the tires need rotating, they probably do. The first rotation is very important when you buy new tires. Pay special attention to the alignment and inflation of the new tires and make a not to use if changes have to be made to avoid tire damage. When street tires are rotated, they simply go from the front to the back, while a Jeep should to from front left to back rear, in the pattern of an X. Another option for off road tires that a lot of people don’t think about is using nitrogen instead of air.

The tires perform better and don’t wear out as quickly when you use the nitrogen. You will get better gas mileage with nitrogen filled tires and it’s friendly to the environment. You can be green and have fun when using nitrogen. Nitrogen to fill the tires can often be hard to find. That should get easier at its use gains popularity.

Keep your eyes open so you don’t miss the opportunity to use nitrogen when it’s available in your area. Get the most enjoyment from the rough terrain by choosing the right tires and taking care of them so that they last a long time.

Tire Works Offers Ultimate Convenience

tires

In May of 2004, Jeff and Roshie Weightman opened the first Tire Works store in North Las Vegas, Nevada. “One of our main goals with Tire Works was to create a company based on a set of uncompromised values,” explains Tire Works CFO Mrs. Weightman. One of those “uncompromised values” is customer convenience.

“We try our best at Tire Works to be the most convenient tire company, bar none,” says Roshie Weightman. What steps has the Tire Works organization taken to ensure the utmost in customer accessibility? The first component is the convenience of Tire Works store locations. Since opening their first store in 2004, Tire Works now boasts an impressive 14 locations throughout the Las Vegas Valley.

Customers in Arizona will be able to experience the Tire Works difference soon enough. The Weightmans plan to open 9 more Tire Works stores in Las Vegas and even more on into their neighboring state. In addition to conveniently having the many Tire Works stores through out Las Vegas, they recognize most professionals aren’t out of work until the late afternoon. To accommodate them, “Our Tire Works stores are open every day, including Sundays.” says Weightman. “Emergencies happen, and we want to be available at Tire Works at all times!”

]]>

Each Tire Works store offers convenient, late evening hours. Tire Works customers are encouraged to come service their vehicle, even if they arrive just before closing time. “We don’t want to turn anyone away from a Tire Works store,” Mrs. Weightman states. “If you can’t make it during our business hours, Tire Works has a drop-off service available.” With the Tire Works drop off service, the company’s ASE (Automated Service Excellence) certified craftsmen will service your vehicle while you’re at work.

“We really tried to cover every angle of convenience at Tire Works,” Weightman professes. “If a customer can’t get back to Tire Works after dropping their car off, we’ll keep it locked in our secure shop overnight.” In this way, the people of Tire Works treat customers like family.

In order to show they value a patron’s time, Tire Works makes sure to have the largest possible selection of tires in stock. “We realize at Tire Works that it’s inconvenient to have to return to a store,” Roshie empathizes. “So Tire Works keeps a huge selection of tires in stock. 3,175 different brands and sizes to be exact!”

If a customer calls and Tire Works should have a tire in stock but they don’t, they will offer the next slightly better tire at the same price. In addition to the convenient number of locations, length of hours and drop-off availability, Tire Works offers a computer reservation system for those who prefer to plan ahead. Tire Works will hold a customer’s tires and set an appointment for them at their convenience.

Finally, the number to reach Tire Works corporate headquarters is posted in every store. If Tire Works can do anything to be more accommodating, they encourage customers to call. “Besides,” Mrs. Weightman concludes, “how can Tire Works truly be the most convenient store if we don’t listen to our customers?”

Custom Car Wheel And Tire Packages

wheels and tires

There is no other single accessory that can so dramatically change the appearance of your vehicle as a set of custom wheels. In the old days, custom or “mag” wheels came from just a few manufacturers like Cragar, AT and American Racing. Now you can find all types of designs to fit any look or attitude from a myriad of makers including Pulse, Avenue, Dub, Enkel, Foose, and of course, American Racing and Cragar Classic.  When talking about custom wheels for street use, “Mag” is actually a misnomer.  In the early ‘60s, “Mag” was a term that racers used to refer to their lightweight, yet strong wheels made of magnesium.  But due to the drawbacks of magnesium wheel care and maintenance, custom wheels engineered for the general public are usually made of more easily cared for chrome plated steel, polished aluminum, or painted aluminum.

Chrome or Aluminum?

Largely it’s a matter of taste, but there are a few things to consider. First, are these wheels primarily for occasional racing where weight might be an issue?  Or is it for a sometimes off-road or rally application, in which case, durability is an issue. Or is it simply for street cruising or touring where looks are the main issue?

Painted Steel and Chrome plated steel wheels are heaviest of the three, but also are the most durable and forgiving of damage.  Good chrome plating not only looks great, but also resists corrosion. Painted aluminum is lighter, and virtually maintenance-free but cannot match the sheen of chrome or polished aluminum – which for many customizers is just the look they’re going for. Polished aluminum is light, looks great, but requires just a little more diligence to protect the finish from oxidization or pitting.

Larger Tire Retail chains have installed thousands of wheel and tire combinations on vehicles over the years and can suggest several options that will work best with your particular vehicle and the look you are trying to achieve. Often they can even show you pictures of previous installations.

A Word On Wheel and Tire Fitment

One of the trends in custom wheels today is to install oversize wheels, up to 22″ or more.  Keep in mind that any time you install rims that are taller than the tallest wheel that came standard on your vehicle, it requires careful planning. The larger diameter rim, with accompanying tire, must not only fit in the wheel well, but also have enough extra room for full travel of the suspension. Failure to do this properly will result in, at best, an annoying thud when hitting large bumps or, at worst, shredding and blowing out of the tire after just a few miles. The simplest way to accommodate a taller wheel is to switch to a lower profile tire so that the overall height of the wheel and tire package remains the same as before. The penalty for increasingly lower profile tires is increasingly stiffer handling and harsher ride.

For performance customizers who have installed aftermarket brakes on their vehicles, separate calculations have to be made for backspace and offset, the measurements for how much space there is between the wheel centerline and the body of the car and how offset the centerline of the wheel is from the mounting plate.  Done correctly. This will ensure that the wheel not only has enough space to accommodate for the oversized brakes, but that the entire wheel and tire package will have enough room side-to-side in the wheel well.

Consult a Professional

Trying to buy custom wheels online should only be attempted by those who have had some real experience in this area. For most of us, the best option is a large local tire retailer that stocks a big selection of chrome, painted or polished custom wheels.  Not only can you see and compare actual wheels side-by-side, but you are also assured that the great –looking tire and wheel package you end up with is one that will work properly (read safely) with your vehicle. This is not a time for trial and error!

Question by Ben: What are some car care tips for keeping a car looking like new besides the usually washing and waxing?
I own two cars a 1996 Mustang I recently bought and a 2004 Suzuki Forenza I bought new. The Mustang was kept in excellent condition very clean inside and out with the original paint and finish in great condition.
I was wondering if anyone has any tips on car care besides the usually washing, waxing, and vacuuming the interior for keeping a car looking new inside and out. Tips especially for cars kept outside. The Forenza is outside and the Mustang is now garaged, not sure if it was before. I would like to be able to have any car I would own for 13 years end up staying as nice as the previous owners kept the mustang.

Best answer:

Answer by THUMBS UP!
1. wash car

2. clay car-This removes contaminants stuck to your paint that normal washing wont get off. I recommend Meguiar’s Smooth surface clay kit. You can also use the clay bar on your windows/wheels too, but of course, do the paint first. Can also wash your car after claying, but isnt necessary

3.paint cleaners-These remove swirl marks/scratches/oxidation/etc. Different strenghts, depending on the severity of the paint. I suggest Meguiars Swirlx. Swirlx may not be aggressive enough, so you may need to step it up to Meguiar’s ultimate compound, then follow it with Swirlx. How to use Paint cleaners: after washing and claying your car. Apply the product to a microfiber applicator. Work the product in a 16×16 in section for about a minute, then remove with microfiber towel, dont let dry. Inspect results, repeat process if needed, see if its up to your par, if not, step up to ultimate compound. Otherwise, if youre done with the section, move on and repeat. You apply ultimate compound in the same way.

4.Pure Polish. This step is optional, as if you were to use a paint cleaner, such as the ones mentioned above, since they already have polishing oils in them. You’ll notice more of a difference in using a pure polish on darker colors, but wont hurt to do it on lighter colors. Meguirs deep crystal polish is their most user friendly polish. Their #7 polish is the best polish, but side-by-side, it will be hard to tell a difference. To apply polish, apply to microfiber applicator. Work in about the same size section, kinda message it into the paint (much like applying lotion to your skin) for about 40 seconds, then wipe off with microfiber towel, dont let dry.

Wax:. Protects paint, gives shine, locks in polish. This is the only product you let dry. Apply to microfiber applicator, apply to paint evenly in circle motions. Let dry to haze. Wipe off with microfiber towel. Two applications is best. Nxt 2.0 tech wax is Meguiars most popular wax.

Then, tire shine, cant have shiny paint with horrible dull looking tires. Any will do.

All these products can be found at wal-mart.

Then for the plastic trim/bumpers
Meguiars Natural shine protectant, or supreme shine protectant
It’ll make it look like new.
Apply to microfiber towel, wipe on
let dry for 10 min, wipe off
