Question by Maori B: What manual transmissions will fit my Prelude B21A Engine?
I have a 1991 Honda Prelude Si States model with the B21A engine. Are there any other model prelude manual transmissions that will fit this engine? Cheers.

You can put in a b20a transmission. You will need to use the pressure plate from the b20 though. The axles @ the wheel end are different too. I don’t think it is worth it. You may just want to stick with another b21 trans. Sorry this motor is not capatable with any other B series parts.

Im pretty sure it is just Pathfinders and Hardbodies from 88-94. If you have the 3.0 then take a tranny from another pathfinder with the same engine. Have you been to http://npora.ipbhost.com/ they can give you any kind of advice you need.

Gm transmissions : is it REALLY needed to shift it from overdrive to 3 when coming into town?
Question by churchguy9147: Gm transmissions : is it REALLY needed to shift it from overdrive to 3 when coming into town?
the guy I baught this 96 cavalier Z24 from said that gm transmissions have a hard time if you DONT switch to 3 when in town that if you do your gas mileage will suffer some but will prolong the life of the tranny (FYI: the car has 178k on it)….. I want to know if any GM mechanics think there is any truth in this as gas mileage suffers some….. ALSO any advice for me?

Overdrive is more for highway driving. In the city running in 3rd eats more gas. But its better on the tranny!

Question by son.kissed88: How long are 95 Saab 900 transmissions good for?
I’m interested in purchasing a 95 Saab 900 in good condition, but the miles are pretty high at 196,000. I am waiting to hear back from them if it’s an Automatic or Manual transmission. It was owned by a mechanic and he takes excellent care of it. Generally, how far will it go until it needs a new tranny?

manual transmissions…?

Question by crazzii bitsch: manual transmissions…?
Do manual transmissions really get better gas mileage? & if so, could anyone explain, because it seems like you would waste more gas since you normally rev the engine higher. Thankns.
Best answer:
Answer by Jake
Yes they do. The reason is because the way automatics are built, they dont transmit as much power to the road. Say your engine is 200 HP. By the time that power gets to your wheels, it’s a lot less, this is called drivetrain loss. With a manual you’re maybe getting 180 wheel horse power, but with an automatic you’re getting maybe 170 wheel horse power.
Automatics are also heavier. And YOU decide what gear you want to be in, an automatic may be in 3rd gear when I could really be in 4th gear to save some gas.
Plus you do not rev the engine higher, in mine I go to 3000 rpm, shift, 3000 rpm, shift, over and over.
And you also have an extra gear.
